Brighton Photo Fringe festival16th October 2018
Every two years, the Brighton Photo Fringe festival runs alongside the Brighton Photo Biennial – the UK’s largest international photography festival. During the month of October, Brighton Photo Fringe (BPF) offers a free, city-wide festival of new photography to provide opportunities for emerging lens-based artists. With links in the city through our Brighton office and some of our team members, Locate was proud to collaborate with BPF this year to bring photography to the streets!
Established by local artists in 2003, volunteer-run BPF attracts local, national and international participants and audiences, and has expanded to become one of the largest festivals of its kind in the UK. BPF creates platforms for new talent, nurtures collaboration and collective working amongst artists across the South-East coast, and enables all kinds of people to enjoy and experiment with photography. Committed to equality and diversity, BPF inspires audiences with extraordinary images in unexpected places.
We love working with people and organisations who share our values, so it was a privilege to facilitate production for one of the festival’s more memorable exhibitions: Inside Out. The exhibition saw a series of portraits sharing stories of people impacted by mental health issues displayed on Brighton seafront. The hope was that, by reading individuals’ stories, others would be inspired to join in the conversation around mental health. The Inside Out portraits were shot by Jack Boniface, a photographer we have worked with for many years, and one of the Locate family.
We really enjoyed being involved with the BPF 2018, working with an event that mirrors our values of collaboration and creativity.
