Capturing the Skill of Parkour with Shamil Tanna5th June 2016
We recently went underground and over rooftops with Photographer Shamil Tanna on this energetic shoot of some Parkour personalities. Shamil is an ascending star in his own right and is sought after for his portrait and campaign work, having captured many well known faces in the world of sport and beyond.
One of our urban Library locations provided the backdrop and platform for this display of athletic choreography, that at times appeared to defy the law of physics. The results were stunning frames of runners suspended in motion, as if frozen or held by an invisible force, that make you look twice.
According to Parkour UK ‘the sport originally termed Art du Deplacement, now also often referred to as Parkour or Freerunning, was founded in France in the 1980s by a group of nine young men.’
The urban streets and car parks of France seem the natural place for such a sport to be conceived and forged that reflects their national motto of ‘Liberté, égalité, fraternité’. This is not rebellion in action but freedom, vive le Parkour!
